When he reached Lazarus, he found that Lazarus had been dead for four days and was in the grave. Jesus was very sad about the death of Lazarus. Jesus said to take him to the tomb of Lazarus. The sisters of Lazarus and the people took Jesus to the tomb of Lazarus. Standing there, Jesus said to remove the stone from the tomb. At which people were very surprised and Lazarus’ sister Martha also said that at that time Lazarus’ body must have smelled a lot because after four days of death the body decomposes. Jesus said that there should be strong faith, with strong faith; people see the light of God. Lazarus, who was dead, came back to life. He came out from grave in such a condition that his hands and feet were covered with shrouds. This miracle shows the divine powers of Jesus.

“Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (John 11:39-44)

After this incident Jesus became very popular among the people and people started believing in him after being inspired by Jesus’ miracles. Because of which the Jewish leaders became very worried. According to them, if people continue to believe in Jesus like this, Judaism will end and they did not want that. Therefore, they thought that now Christianity is spreading too much, so we should kill Jesus.

“Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. “What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.” (John 11:45-48)
