Sarah Who Was Abraham’s Wife

Sarah was a very good and faithful woman. Sarah is called Abraham‘s wife in the Bible. She was nine years younger than Abraham. When Abraham was 99 years old, Sarah was 90 years old. There was a lot of love between them. God put Sarah to the test and kept her barren. Sarah’s entire youth was spent in barrenness. She prayed a lot to God for her to have children but she became old and she did not have children. God told Sarah not to worry. He will surely give her the good news of children. Sarah had faith in God but this raised doubts in her mind as how she would have children at such an old age.

So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” (Genesis 18:12)
Promise of God
Sarah’s life tells us how faithfulness and patience show us God’s miracles. The same thing happened to Sarah. She was very old and prayed to have children. God promised her that she would have a son in the form of Isaac. Sarah believed in God’s word but had doubts in her heart. When she was 90 years old, God gave her the good news of children. Her first son was born and he was named Isaac. However, God had also tested them in this and asked for the sacrifice of Isaac. Abraham and Sarah also fulfilled this.

Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. (Genesis 21:1-3)
Role of Sarah
Sarah was very loyal. She loved Abraham very much. Abraham and Sarah saw hard times together. Abraham faced many difficult times, but Sarah did not leave him and remained faithful to Isaac throughout her life. God asked Abraham to leave his hometown, so Sarah supported Abraham. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, Sarah did not let her mother’s feelings to wake up in front of this order and agreed to sacrifice Isaac. It was the fruit of their sacrifices that God gave them a great position. This shows that Sarah was very faithful to God and Abraham.

Beauty of Sarah
Sarah was very beautiful and the talk of her beauty was famous among people. They used to admire her beauty. Once, due to a famine, God told them to go to Egypt. When they were going to Egypt, Abraham thought that his wife was very beautiful. Pharaoh could take his wife away from him. To get Sarah, he might even kill me. To avoid this, he thought of a trick. He told Sarah that he would introduce her as his sister in Egypt.
Similarly, when they arrived in Egypt, people saw Sarah and said that she is a very beautiful woman; she should be taken to the king’s court. When news of Sarah’s beauty reached Pharaoh’s court, he called Sarah. When Sarah went there, Pharaoh asked her to come to his palace and thought of marrying her. Pharaoh also gave Abraham a lot of wealth because he thought that Abraham was Sarah’s brother. Well, it was a difficult time for Abraham and Sarah. When Pharaoh found out that she was his wife, he was very upset. He got very angry and said, “Get out of here.”

Sarah’s life is full of patience and trials. He prayed for children all his life and believed in God. God told Sarah to be patient and said that He will give good news very soon. Death of Sarah
When Sarah died, she was 127 years old. At that time, both Abraham and Sarah were in Canaan. Abraham buried Sarah in a cave known as Machpelah. Abraham’s descendants like Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, etc were later buried in the same cave.

“Sarah lived to be a hundred and twenty-seven years old. She died at Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep over her.” (Genesis 23:1)

Afterward, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre (which is at Hebron) in the land of Canaan. So the field and the cave in it were deeded to Abraham by the Hittites as a burial site. (Genesis 23:19-20)
